Senior Collection

Saucy

My senior thesis collection entitled Saucy, is based on the individuality of Pizza. It is also inspired by modern art and sketchy cookbooks of the 1920s through the 1940s. When tasked to make three looks, I wanted one to be the tools, one the process, and the final one the product.

The Tools: The first look is an apron inspired wrap top with cigarette pants. The print on this look are the utensils used to make pizza, (a ladle, pizza paddle, pizza cutter, and cheese grater) that I hand drew and then turned into a digital print and got printed onto cotton poplin. This piece is accessorized with a hand drawn to-go pizza box clutch that has a vintage wooden handle.

The Process: The second look is a boxy black denim tank with matching black denim culottes. I wanted to capture the mess and joy that occurs when creating pizza by hand painting this look to mimic the garment being drenched in flour. This garment also has a pizza shaped back pocket with hand embroidered pepperonis. This look is also paired with a to-go clutch made from a hand drawn pizza box and a vintage wooden handle.

The Product: The final piece in my collection is the pizza itself, represented in a pizza slip dress. When you look at a slice of pizza it actually follows the lines of the body quite nicely, so I wanted to go based off of that. The pizza that is on the slip dress is one I made myself from scratch. I made the dough, let it rise, and then photographed it, sized it on photoshop, and got it printed onto satin. This look is paired with a giant basil leaf fur stole.
